We all see ads and get the bogus emails touting a need for secret shoppers and secret diners. It always turns out that there is a catch. You have to purchase a list of sites or supply too much personal information. I know we have secret shoppers in our store all the time but I don't know how they get their job. I'd love to do that on the side or at the very least be a secret diner for restuarants. Please help.
Contact the companies directly. They can provide you with the name of the company they use, or if they do it themselves.

I have been searching also. I have come across some real rip offs. I did go to the Better Business Bureau and check out a number of companies though.
I would suggest that if you want to try a company first check them out with the Better Business Bureau. They have an online website.
Someone told me that if you have to pay up front for it it may not be a good idea. I don't know how true that is though.
I hope you find what you are looking for.

I have been looking for one for about a month now. So far I haven't had much luck.

You have to apply to become a secret shopper at the websites of these market research companies. They will then contact you if they have any assignment in your area. List of companies where you can apply free and links to relevant websites available at http://tinyurl.com/n474j
