Oiran and Tayuu … Oiran and Tayuu provided the sexual services….the Geisha and Geiko worked along side them….dancing, performing the tea ceremony and entertaining guests. The fact that they worked along side the courtesans causes confusion. Prostitution has been illegal in Japan since 1957. Oiran and Tayuu were far more refined, sophisticated and expensive than anything we have in the West.
I’m fascinated by … I’m fascinated by the world of geisha’s, and I don’t think they are prostitutes, they are artists.
And that the author broke his promise, was very wrong.
Wow! What an arse! … Wow! What an arse! If he promised Ms Iwasaki that he wouldn’t reveal her name, he shouldn’t have!
But I have to say, the book didn’t make me think of geisha as prostitutes. In fact, it STOPPED me from thinking of geisha as prostitutes.
But Mr Golden really is scum for using Mineko Iwasaki like that.
But in a restricted society, a bit of bare skin at the back of the neck, and a beautiful, teasing young lady to drink with you was something treasured.
Call me nuts but I … Call me nuts but I don’t think generations of men would pay 6 grand for a party just to watch a few women play the shamisen and pour their sake.
I was not too … I was not too impressed with the movie. The villainous character was alright; but the movie felt very ‘Westernized.’ I’m glad to have found this, and other videos and research about this beautiful, yet dying, artwork.
I still don’t see … I still don’t see geisha as prostitutes, but of course they have sexual desires just like any human being…Memoirs of a Geisha never made me to believe that geisha were prostitutes..in fact it cleared up what I was wondering before, if they were really high-class prostitutes or not. But I think it was very wrong of the author to break his promise to poor Mineko.
The three Maiko in … The three Maiko in this video are Teruhina, Terue and Kimika. Teruhina and Kimika became Geiko but soon afterward Teruhina left and went to New York to study English. Terue quit as well. They all lived in the same house called Tsurui.
later from moving … later from moving away from her. I really miss her right now and since then… =( I tried reviving the memories she shared with me but cannot remember…sad for me to think about it…
I think that Mineko … I think that Mineko is still beautiful. I mean geishas, like Mineko said, don’t sell their body for money and all that stuff. My ‘grandmother’ is Japanese and once was a geisha herself. She told me everything about it and showed me her complicated but beautiful geisha dress. She gave me her childhood kimono shoes and it fitted me perfectly…but I never had a kimono so I began to grow out of the shoes. She taught me lots of things I’ve never knew before. But she lost her memory about me 2 years

good? at least the geisha were respected afterwards. also, is the geisha having danna differ ne from these 60 year old men with the lovely young wives? hugh hefner neone? and yet they rnt called whores (to their faces)so before ne of u people begin jumping on golden, at least he did his research. check the registrys hunnies, the geisha DID have mizuage becuz they had to pay taxes on the money they earned SO HA. and even if iwasaki san and golden HAD and agreement, get it in writing.
first and foremost … first and foremost i would like to stop all the hating on both golden and iwasaki becuz i was taught a long time ago that ther r 3 storys, urs, mine and wat really happened. second of all if ne one actually read and comprehened memoirs of a geisha theyd realize that the time the book was set in was vastly different from that you see today. and also, what if the geisha sold their virginity? is that ne worse than some girl in highschool giving theirs to sum popular guy just to make herself look.
How could someone … How could someone like that do something to such a tradition? I find it repulsive, ridiculous, and nonsensical. To do something like that, ruins lives, it really upsets me.
