Know Before You Go

I am applying to the architecture program.

My stats are:
- Female, African American NY resident from all-girls Catholic high school
- 87.89 unweighted and weighted average
- SATs: 560 Math, 580 Critical Reading, 510 Writing
- I regret to say that I have not taken any honors or AP courses (I never realized the importance of them before it was too late). All college prep courses.
- I have some extracurricular activities, but nothing really impressive, no sports, and no work experience. I received a half scholarship to attend a summer Architecture program at Penn State after my sophomore year though if that means anything.
- I did very badly my freshman year, but there is an upward trend with my grades, and I have been on Honor Roll (90+ avg) since the second quarter of sophomore year, and Principal's List (95+ avg) twice.

I'm very unsure about SUNY Buffalo. My SATs fall in the mid-range and my average is just a point below the mid-50%, but I read that their architecture school is competitive. Does that mean my stats must be above average to be assured acceptance to their architecture school? If so, do I still have a shot? I would really like to get accepted.

What do you think? What is my chance at getting in?
Thanks for your help!

As a student at UB I would say that you have an average chance of getting into the University. I am pretty sure that your grades and SAT score will be good enough to make it through the first round of statistic based ranking and cutting. After that it is going to be up to your essay and how well you can persuade the admissions department that you are on the up and up and not just an average student.

You may be able to get into the University with those grades and then have to earn your spot in the architecture program as it is getting more competitive every year. To be honest, many people that I know have been accepted in that particular program and have had a very challenging time maintaining their grades and they were straight A students throughout high-school and AP classes.

Sorry to scare you, but I just wanted to be honest with you. In my opinion, high school really does not matter once you enter college. You have a clean slate so just prove to the University that you will make them look good and that you will not let them down.

In the US it's foodnetwork.com,sushi,BBQ, fusion cuisine.

i realized yesterday that every girl that i’ve ever been close with friend or girlfriend, had divorced parents. this is a strange trend, does anybody have any thoughts about what this could mean about my personality? or why i could possibly attract such women?

Maybe the girls trusts you in their lives. Keep in contact with them all. That what I would do.

i grew up in a suburban town that i never really liked. i spent most of my HS life a bit of a loner. senior year i finally found two friends that i thought were like the coolest people on earth. they seemed so politically and culturally savvy, and actually behaved like people who had ideas and concerns. fittingly i met them in AP digital art. we were considered the 'art chicks'. since i respected them so much, i learned that there were parts of pop culture and fashion that i was not intuned with. i unknowingly became a hipster. i really DO think the fashion is beautiful. it inspires my art work, but i'm noticing problems with this whole lifestyle. my friends both sometimes act like elitist snobs who put so much effort into being hip just because they have the time an leisure to do so. one doesn't have a job and her mom mom funds her perfect hipster wardrobe. she looks down on people who don't quite hit the mark. i really don't like this and hope that people won't think IM this way just because i'm into the hipster look. i don't know, all the sudden i feel like i walked into a trend without knowing enough about it. but i really AM a coffee house chick with political concerns who loves art. i don't know, i don't want to attract the wrong people and scare away others who may think i look intimidating. unlike my friends, i like anyone who is nice.

The cool thing about life- is we are free to try on different roles, explore new ideas and change our minds-litterally.

Do not let anyone or group define who you are- you are still evolving and that's what makes you and life interesting!

The economy is so tanked around here (unemployment at a bit over 16%) that one of our established pros (a good photographer with a studio and tux/gown storefront) just folded up his business last month. I don't shoot weddings full time, so I am not a good barometer of the trend. Although I haven't done as many this year as last, my volume naturally fluctuates from year to year as I do no advertising and have no web presence, all my clients are WOM.

I do know one of the upstarts who has shot for a couple of years has taken her website down, so I am assuming she is gone. My mentor, who began shooting weddings in the 1940's said he is thrilled he is not in the business now, he doesn't see how anyone could market photography at a high enough rate to survive in our area now days because of all the cheap digi-shooting newbies. I live in a very rural/small town area, it might be different in bigger cities.

The plain fact is, many people cannot afford a photographer, or even a big wedding. There are more courthouse ceremonies around here lately, and more backyard BBQ types as well. So these people aren't spending $2000 on the photographer, and probably not on the entire affair. There have always been the Uncle Bobs doing it as a favor, and there's a place for them. The free shooters family or friend doing it as a favor for a B&G who otherwise would have no photos at all is not a problem to the professionals. Those people weren't going to hire a professional photographer anyway.

No, it's not Uncle Bob who's a problem, it's all the new "perfessionals" with their new dSLR who charge to show up, snap all day, and burn a CD for several hundred less than the local pros. Often without adequate backup and almost certainly with little experience and know-how. Very few of them will be in "business" very long, but there is a constant influx of them. I know of at least 3 in my area right now, not counting the one who seems to have disappeared recently. They will get a few jobs I am sure. If they are good they might even make a success of it, perhaps at the expense of the first several couples. The others will fail, either because of poor business skills, poor photography or people skills, or a combination.

I'm not talking about the big brands that cost thousands of dollars.. but where can i go to keep up to date about what's in for guys. There's GQ and whatnot.. but they really focus around the really expensive stuff. Maybe by reading celebrity magazines to see what they're wearing? Cause they generally set the trends and wear what looks good.

guys don't have trends. whats hot is just hot. go to expressmen

Kids' storage racks recalled after death Fri Nov 16, 9:31 AM ET

Some 36,000 Chinese-made children's storage racks sold at Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT.N) in the United States were recalled after a baby was suffocated by an overturned rack, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Friday.

The wooden storage rack, manufactured for Irving, Texas-based Jetmax International Ltd, has three levels and nine removable canvas totes, the safety agency said. One model has red, blue, yellow and green canvas totes, and another model has pastel-colored canvas totes.

An 8-month-old boy suffocated after he pulled on a storage rack and it fell over on him, with the top rail landing on his neck, the government agency said.

Wal-Mart sold the storage rack organizers under the brand "Home Trend Kids" from August 2004 through July 2005 for about $40, the agency said. The product was also sold at Ollie's stores from July 2006 through June 2007.

Consumers should immediately stop children from using the recalled storage racks and contact Jetmax International to receive a free repair kit that adds stability to the base of the rack, the agency said.

The CPSC posted photographs of the recalled item on its Web site at http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml08/08085.html

You know the thing is with stuff like that, where is the parent? A child could get suffocated or harmed with practically anything around the house. One needs to keep a very close eye on their children at all times.

This one is your problem<>C:\WINNT\system32\braviax.exe > this is the only problem i can see.

Superantispyware have it in their definitions so
should remove. This is free for personal use.

http://www.fileresearchcenter.com/B/BRAVIAX.EXE-12273.html

Download from link below and would be advisable
to scan in safe mode if it does not remove in
normal mode.If still there after that you will have
to turn off system restore<>scan again<>reboot
and if gone turn system restore back on.This will
create a new restore point without the braviax.exe.

So my question to you is why do you refuse to date Asian men. I notice this trend in college and was wondering for an answer. So far people complain that Asian men are too short, old fashion…oh the stupid excuses even though many of them are like 6 generation Americans.

I ask a similar one already but it got deleted…why no idea, unless someone reported it as being racist/wrong, which how could that be I am an Asian women myself.
people please answer my question and don't leave me a stupid comment.

I ignore those asian girls, you can spot them a mile away. Self hating and over acting. But remember, not ALL asian girls are like that. Only some.

Im assuming your relatively young. Youve attained your AS, you are not afraid of numbers or tedious office/computer work.
My suggestion is to move from the mgmt, account rep to bookkeeping, yeah a step down. But a step down to climb way up. Bookkeeping is just the interem, go back to school and work towards becoming a CPA. As a CPA you will utilize all of your leadership/training skills and finance skills to help individuals and businesses maximize their potential.
I know 7 CPAs, 6 of them are 'millionaires' and have ownership in several businesses that they perform financial duties for. The 7th CPA has only been a CPA for two years, and already has a locked clientel. i.e. they are not open to new clients, she is booked solid and rockin a big income.
I wish I could become a CPA, I think you might be in a prime postition in your life to make a move in that direction.
Find some CPAs and talk to them.
